FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What does DredgeBetter do that is different from traditional dredging?
DredgeBetter uses a vacuum dredging system to remove loose silt that makes waterways unhealthy. Then the magic happens! We pump that loose silt into our proprietary “Shake and Take” trailer system that separates the silt and allows the water to flow back to the source in a mess free closed loop system.
What if my water way is far from the roadway or the trailer can’t get close to the water?
DredgeBetter can deal with that! We can pump hundreds of feet away, no problem!
What if my neighbors are difficult and will complain about the noise?
Not to worry! We have a nice dampening system that we can use on the trailer that quiets the trailer noise to only 60 Db! (That’s about the same as an average lawn mower)
I’m worried about dredging causing damage to the bottom of my pond and the clay base.
No worries. With our process that is actually impossible to do. We can’t dig at all. We can only suck up the loose silt that sits on top of the clay base of your pond.
I have a boat lift in my dock and I am worried about removing it and damaging it.
No sweat! With our process you don’t have to remove the lift. We can work around it.
How long does it take to clear the slit from a water way?
Well that depends. I boat dock will take a day or less, but a pond could take a few days to a few weeks depending on the size and the depth of silt. Once we do a dredge, we can recommend a maintenance interval that would be significantly less of an undertaking.
How often does my waterway need dredged?
Some areas more than others. Depending on whether you are situated on water with a current or a still body of water the circumstance will differ. We can help determine problematic areas such as run off entry points and pin point dredging those areas as needed to avoid long term contamination of the entire waterway.
Mechanical dredging takes less time, what’s the advantage of vacuum dredging?
You are right, mechanical dredging is often faster. But vacuum dredging offers several benefits: significantly less disruption to the surrounding ground. Heavy equipment will tear the ground up and requires permits to move in and out. Mechanical dredging gives you less control and can remove too much material. Vacuum dredging only removes the loose silt. Mechanical dredging is typically more expensive. Mechanical dredging digs out the silt (and sometimes more) and sets it on the ground to dry out (stinky and messy). We can pump and haul away daily with no silt piles if requested.
How is pricing determined?
There are various factors that go into quoting. We factor the dimensions of the area to be worked on but then we also assess the depth of the silt to be removed. This tells us the cubic yards of material to be removed which then allows us to factor time and materials required.
We offer 3 different processes, but the 3rd is what makes us a preferred solution:
1- Material is pumped from water into silt dams to be left on property.
2- Material is pumped into silt bags to be left on property (can serve functional purposes).
3- Material is pumped into silt bags in dewatering trailer and hauled away same day.
